🔥 Is Your Home Ready for Wildfire Season? 🔥Wildfire doesn’t stop at the property line, but you can slow it down! Creating Defensible Space is one of the most effective ways to protect your home and give our crews a fighting chance to defend it.Start with these three critical zones:Zone 0: The "Non-Combustible" Zone (0-5 ft) 🏠The first 5 feet are the most important for preventing ember ignition. Clear all dead leaves, pine needles, and debris from roofs and gutters. Swap wood mulch for gravel, pavers, or river rock. Move firewood, lumber, and patio furniture away from your siding and off decks.Zone 1: The "Lean & Clean" Zone (5-30 ft) 🌿Trim tree branches so they are at least 10 feet away from your chimney or roofline. Keep your lawn hydrated and mowed to 4 inches or less. Remove "ladder fuels"—low-hanging shrubs or vines that can carry a ground fire into the treetops.Zone 2: The "Reduced Fuel" Zone (30-100+ ft) 🌲Space out trees so their crowns (tops) are at least 10–15 feet apart. Prune the lowest tree limbs 6–10 feet off the ground. Store large propane tanks and wood piles at least 50 feet away from structures. Don’t wait until you see smoke to start your yard work. A few hours of clearing today could save your home tomorrow. 💪🔥 ... See MoreSee Less

What’s a fun, hands-on way to explore physics and engineering? Dropping an egg from 31 feet in the air, of course! 🥚Our crews had a blast partnering with local students for an exciting school egg drop competition. To give the eggs a real-world test of gravity, we brought out our ladder truck and used the platform to conduct the drop from 31 feet up!Beyond the fun and cheers, participating in events like this is an important part of our community outreach because it allows us to build trust with students outside of emergencies, spark curiosity in STEM learning, and share important fire safety messages while showing kids the equipment we use every day to keep our community safe.A huge thank you to the Deer Park teachers and students who invited us to be a part of such a creative day. Great job to everyone whose egg survived the drop!#SCFD4 #CommunityFirst #STEM #FirefightersInTheCommunity #EggDropChallenge #DeerParkSchools ... See MoreSee Less
