Volunteer Stations

While we accept volunteers at all our stations, the four stations here do not have any staffing and rely on volunteer response. Our six other stations are staffed, so we do not lose credit for not having volunteers

Frequently asked questions

  • How long is training?

The initial structural firefighting training academy takes about 10 weeks and is typically on Wednesday nights and Saturdays. The academy typically runs from the beginning of March through April. Due to the extensive training in a short period of time, attendance is necessary and mandatory.

  • Do I have to get my EMT?

No, if you live within five road miles of one of the listed stations, you can be a single role structural firefighter only. You are welcome to also get EMT training through the District, but it is not a requirement.

  • Why five miles?

Volunteer Fire Districts across the state must maintain a minimum number of firefighters who live no more than five road miles away from the fire station. This keeps the fire station active and helps ensure homeowners fire insurance premiums do not increase.

  • Any other attendance required?

Yes, all volunteer members must attend all required structural fire fighting training, which is offered multiple times throughout the month. You must also pull a minimum of one 12-hour shift at a staffed station, per month. This allows members to complete additional training and keep their skills up to date.

  • What are the next steps to join?

Fill out an application online and email it to [email protected] or you may turn it in at the main admin office at the Deer Park fire station. We will start contacting potential volunteers in mid-November for December information meetings.

  • What if I have further questions?

Please contact us at 509.467.4500, Monday to Friday from 8 to 5; or fill out our contact form here. We will help you through the process!
