Burning garbage in Washington has been prohibited for decades. The use of burn barrels is also banned. Smoke from burning in burn barrels is especially noxious because the fires burn at low temperatures, receiving little oxygen and producing excessive smoke and other toxic substances.
There are several types of outdoor burning as defined by state and local regulations. Below are the types of outdoor burning and an overview of the requirements. SRCAA’s Outdoor Burning regulation.
This means burning yard/garden debris is NOT allowed within city limits regardless of the existence or absence of any other burn restrictions.

Wildfire preparedness starts at home. The good news is you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
Our Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) Program helps residents understand how their home and property may be vulnerable to wildfire and what they can do to reduce that risk.
Our Wildland Prevention Specialist will walk your property with you and look at things like vegetation, defensible space, landscaping, roofing, decks, vents and other areas that can affect how well your home may withstand a wildfire.
The goal is to give you a better understanding of your home’s wildfire risk and provide practical, personalized steps you can take to make your property safer and more resilient.
Spokane County Fire District 4 participates in a national program that provides firefighters with immediate access to your building in the event of a fire or related emergency when the building is locked. Knox are primarily used for commercial occupancies but an increasing number of people are using this program for access to residential properties.

The Fire District provides plan review of new and changing construction. A plan review is conducted in cooperation with Spokane County or the City of Deer Park.
The Fire District conducts routine fire and life safety inspections of high hazard occupancies, businesses, childcare facilities, and schools.

Spokane County Fire District No. 4 provides reflective address signs to help emergency crews locate your property quickly during a fire or medical emergency. These signs improve address visibility when seconds matter, especially at night or in poor weather.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT MAKES THIS PROGRAM POSSIBLE
Address signs are not funded through the regular operating budget. District operational funds are used primarily for staffing, equipment, and facilities. Approximate cost per sign: $75
• Donations are appreciated and help sustain this program
• No donation is required to receive a sign
• Donations are 100% tax-deductible
INSTALLATION TIMELINE
• Installations occur March 31st through November 1st (weather permitting)
• After your request is received, District crews will mark the proposed sign
location with white paint
• Utility companies will then verify and mark utilities in orange paint
• Once utilities are confirmed, the address sign will be installed
• Placement typically occurs within 6-8 weeks of request

Spokane County Fire District 4 has a Fire Protection Class Rating of 4 across the entire district, including the city of Deer Park.
Your rating may be different if your property is greater than five road miles from a fire station and/or your property is located more than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant.
